We are New Zealand Māori, representing various iwi and hapu from Aotearoa who have travelled across the Tasman and are living and raising our whanau in New South Wales, Australia.   We had taken our tikanga Māori for granted during our upbringing and now we are endeavouring to build opportunities for our tamariki to connect with tikanga Māori whilst living in Australia.  It is through our love of sport, where we can ensure our tamariki are physically fit and healthy and through tikanga Māori, we can help enrich their mental and spiritual health.

With the blessings from our tupuna, a group of likeminded coaches/friends decided to start an association to help build a bridge between the numerous sports and incorporate cultural aspects to enrich our tamariki.

With the large amount of sporting opportunities on offer in which our rangatahi participate and excel, it made sense to us to use sport as the platform to start strengthening our Māori cultural connections.  Sport will be the waka we use to bring everyone together.

We have already witnessed fantastic results from events like the Pacifica Youth Rugby Cup that occurred in 2022 and 2023.

Stay UpDATED

The Māori Sports and Cultural Association acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land on which we are privileged to live, work and gather to share in sport and culture. Both here on Dharug land and all across the land. We honour and respect their rich cultural heritage and the connection our custodians have to the land, sea, skies and waterways.  We pay our respects to Elders past, Elders present and to those following in their footsteps.
